Searching the Marcellus Court Docket
Marcellus has no village municipal docket, citation search, or court-payment portal of its own. A Marcellus traffic ticket, civil infraction, small claim, misdemeanor, or District civil matter lives in the Cass 4th District MiCOURT page. That public screen is court-specific. Treat Marcellus as a place name, not a court code.
MiCOURT's public name panel requires Last Name or Business. First Name, Middle Name, and Birth Year stay optional. Have a case already? The known-case panel asks for Year, Number, and Type. The court publishes no Marcellus citation number format. Remember that public search is informational only. A full file or document image may not appear.
- Select D04 for the normal Marcellus District-court route.
- Search by name or business, or use Year, Number, and Type if a D04 case is known.
- Use Search, and use Show or Clear if available to review the public result state.
- Try C43 for a Circuit case or felony after bindover, and P14 for a Probate matter.
- Use the responsible file room when the Marcellus web result is incomplete or a record copy is needed.
Note: Before relying on a Marcellus public result, confirm the court, the case type, and the filing details.
Marcellus Court Records Start at D04
Why D04? 4th District Court is the Cass court for traffic and civil infractions, small claims, misdemeanors, District civil claims, and related District matters. The Cass 4th District Court page spells out that scope. MiCOURT is the public case-search layer on top of it.
Marcellus counted 1,074 residents in the Census 2020 incorporated-place table. That number describes the village, not its court filings. The county publishes no Marcellus-only caseload figure. A village headcount cannot slice countywide D04 volume.
Court jurisdiction is the clearest lens for a Marcellus court docket. D04 covers District subjects, C43 covers Circuit, and P14 covers Probate.
Marcellus Municipal Court Basics
Is there a Marcellus municipal court? No. The village and county sources show no separate village bench. The Village of Marcellus site covers village administration only. It is no stand-in for the D04 docket.
The village contact page lists 177 E Main, Marcellus, MI 49067, phone 269-646-5485. Weekday office hours differ. Those details identify the civic office. They do not open a Marcellus court counter or set Cass trial-court hours.
A local ordinance or village-government question fits the Marcellus office as a first call. Once a case is filed, though, the real question is which Cass court took it in.
Marcellus Village Hours and Court Hours
Village hours and court hours answer different questions. The village lists Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:45 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday morning hours are also listed. The Law & Courts Building in Cassopolis posts public service windows of 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Older county text still shows a 4:45 p.m. court window. Plan around the current 4:30 p.m. notice, but call ahead, because civic schedules shift. An open village office never guarantees an open District counter.

For a Marcellus District record or copy, use the active Law & Courts Building and the D04 custodian, not the village office.

Court Dates and Settings in Marcellus
Check any Marcellus court date with the court that set it. The D04 live CourtDisplay is the District planning tool. Cass Courts says the hearing-docket schedule refreshes about every 30 minutes and can change without notice. Before a time-sensitive appearance, compare that live screen with your written notice.
Ticket or date problem? Call the District traffic line at 269-445-4430. For a D04 record or file-room question, call 269-445-4424. The CourtDisplay is not the full register of actions, so it cannot replace a current notice or a court confirmation.
| Court | Check D04 for ordinary Marcellus District matters, or C43 and P14 for their separate venues. |
|---|---|
| Date and time | Use the current display as a planning aid and compare it with the latest notice. |
| Case number | MiCOURT uses Year, Number, and Type; no Marcellus prefix was published. |
| Setting type | A public display can identify a hearing, arraignment, pretrial, trial, compliance event, or other setting. |
| Reset history | Check the newest entry or clerk confirmation if an earlier Marcellus date has moved. |
Note: A saved old calendar never proves a Marcellus hearing is still set for that date.
Marcellus D04 Search Fields
A Marcellus query uses the same D04 public fields as any other Cass District case. So don't hunt for a Marcellus case-number type or citation prefix, because none exists. Pick the court first, then use the name panel or the known-case panel.
| Marcellus search option | Public D04 use |
|---|---|
| Last Name or Business | Required name-panel field. |
| First, Middle, Birth Year | Optional refinements when exposed in the public interface. |
| Year, Number, Type | Known-case fields; the official research did not provide a Marcellus citation pattern. |
| Search, Show, Clear | Documented public search, filtering, and reset controls. |
Never fish for protected identifiers as search data. If a Marcellus name search returns several people, weigh the court and public case details against each other. Then call the D04 file room and ask about the right access procedure.
Traffic Tickets in Marcellus
Traffic matters out of Marcellus travel the D04 route. Run your docket search there. Check CourtDisplay for the next setting. Dial 269-445-4430 with a ticket number in hand. Village Hall can handle a basic administrative question, but the ticket register lives with the court, not the village.
Money goes through Cass Payments or GovPayNet. A receipt proves you paid. It is not a ruling and does not show where the D04 case stands today. The Cass County traffic tickets page walks through the full county procedure. Deadlines and appearance dates come from the case notice itself. Court staff can explain routing, though they cannot tell you how to resolve the ticket.
Marcellus Payment and Court Register
Keep payment channels and court record channels apart in Marcellus. A county-linked vendor on a payment screen can look like the court docket, but it is not one.
| Marcellus question | Official route | Not the same as |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic or civil-infraction case status | D04 MiCOURT and the D04 live display | A Marcellus municipal docket, which was not located. |
| Payment or case balance | Cass Payments, GovPayNet, and District staff | The court register or official case image. |
| Village administration | Village of Marcellus | Custody of a filed D04 case. |
When a payment touches the court record, confirm the outcome with District staff. A driver record is a state product. The payment vendor does not hold it and never will.
Where Marcellus Cases Go
Jurisdiction, not geography, sets the route for a Marcellus case. D04 takes traffic, civil infractions, small claims, many misdemeanors, and District civil matters. A felony begins at District Court for the complaint and preliminary stages. It may then move to C43 after bindover. Probate runs under P14.
Docket flow: Marcellus civic question › Cass 4th District Court D04 for a filed District case › 43rd Circuit Court C43 after felony bindover or for Circuit jurisdiction
Civil cases need a court-level check too. Cass draws the line at $25,000: District civil at that figure or less, Circuit civil above it. The village name alone tells you nothing about the route.
Marcellus Hearing Recording Requests
A hearing record is its own product. It is distinct from a live court date or a standard court copy. Cass offers one countywide transcript and DVD request form covering District, Circuit, and Probate. You supply the hearing details and mark whether you want a recording or a transcript. A DVD runs $20 each, paid in advance. A transcript goes through an independent transcriptionist with a deposit arrangement. Neither substitutes for a plain or certified copy, and neither replaces the live calendar. Ask the responsible file room which product fits before sending money. The form is a countywide Cass path for a Marcellus hearing, not a village service.
Marcellus Court Record Access Rules
Court-file access in Marcellus follows the rules of whichever trial court holds the record. MCR 8.119 generally permits inspection and copying unless a statute, court rule, or order limits access. Ask D04, C43, or P14 about your request. It may need a plain copy, certified copy, document image, transcript, or DVD. Public MiCOURT search is informational only. It is not the official court record. Michigan FOIA does not govern the judiciary. The reliable fallback is the court file room. That room holds the file and its current copy procedure.
Marcellus Missing Court Results
A docket search that comes up empty has several possible causes. The court code, a spelling error, or the wrong year will sink a lookup. Older criminal records can sit outside online display limits. The case may be sealed or suppressed. It may also belong to a limited category like juvenile, adoption, wills, PPO, family, or mental-health matters. A public case can also carry redacted identifiers under court rules. Redaction protects individual data from display; it does not seal a public Marcellus case. Retry with corrected fields, then call the District, Circuit, or Probate file room for direction. No village portal exists that can produce a record missing from the Cass court system. The village office handles civic information, while court files must go through the county courts. Bring the D04 code and any case details to the District file room for a Marcellus District question. A Circuit matter may need C43 after a felony bindover. It may need C43 because the subject belongs there. P14 stays separate for Probate. This routing keeps records requests away from an office with no register. It also preserves the line between a public case lookup and an official copy. Marcellus court access is a county-court process, even when the question starts at village hall.
